Despite pandemics, the gaming industry is constantly developing and we can still reckon on new releases and remasters of older games. Let’s check some of the most recent news from the gaming industry.

Resident Evil Village
Rumor: Sony paid for the absence of Resident Evil Village in Game Pass and other subscription services. Presumably, this agreement between Sony and Capcom was posted on Twitter and it contains a clause that it is impossible to release Resident Evil Village on subscription services within one year after the release of the game.
In addition, the agreement contains a clause on the inadmissibility of the release of DLC on other platforms, if these DLC will not be released first on the PlayStation. The document also includes a clause on the release of an exclusive demo version on the Sony platform.
Blizzard
Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan leaves Blizzard after 19 years. Kaplan’s departure was announced on the online shooter’s website, and the game designer’s message to fans was also posted. Blizzard’s online shooter and the sequel will continue without it, with Aaron Keller, a member of the original Overwatch development team, taking over as Game Director.
Jeff Kaplan himself has not said exactly why he decided to leave the studio but thanked all the fans for their support. He has not disclosed what he will do in the future. In his own address to the players, Aaron Keller thanked the former game director, calling him “an excellent leader, mentor, and friend.” He assured that the development of Overwatch 2 is proceeding smoothly, noting that many Blizzard veterans, as well as talented newcomers, remain on the team.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
Jason Schreier: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake is really being developed by Aspyr Media. After hints, the journalist nevertheless admitted that the game is being developed by a studio known for ports of various Star Wars titles.
Schreier also stated that EA, which owns the rights to release Star Wars games, is not involved in the revamped KotOR. An insider and host of the Bespin Bulletin podcast reported the same in early 2021.
Aspyr Media is known for creating ports of various games – the studio released, for example, both parts of KotOR on mobile platforms, and Star Wars: Republic Commando on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The studio has approximately 140 employees, including former Bioware Austin employees.

Call of Duty: Warzone
Call of Duty: Warzone surpasses the 100 million player mark 13 months after release. Activision shared the achievement and thanked the players on Twitter. Warzone was released on March 10, 2020. The number of Battle Royale players in the first 24 hours was six million, after 30 days – 50 million, and after nine months – 85 million.
On April 22, the third season will begin in Warzone, in which there will be a large-scale update of the Verdansk map, new operators and weapons will appear, and Operation Rapid Sunder will also start. In addition, on April 21, the developers promised to tell the details about the events of the “battle royale” in the game’s blog.
UK Retail Charts
Cyberpunk 2077 returned to the top ten of the UK retail charts, and FIFA 21 took first place. For the first time in a long period, an action RPG from the Polish studio CDPR managed to return to the top ten best-selling games in UK retail. This is probably due to the recently released patch 1.2, as well as the drop in prices for discs with the game.
